14 The farmer sows the word.

16 Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy.

17 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.

16 And some are like the seed that lands in the gravel. When they first hear the Word, they respond with great enthusiasm.
 
17 But there is such shallow soil of character that when the emotions wear off and some difficulty arrives, there is nothing to show for it.

1 A mental state that arises spontaneously rather than through conscious effort and is often accompanied by physiological changes

How to let it take root?

Read, listen, discuss, apply.

Read the Bible and material (books, pamphlets, blogs, etc.) by respected Christians that give perspective. (always supplement others’ perspective with your own prayerful consideration of the Word)

Listen during sermons, podcasts, meetings etc. – pay attention.

Discuss and ask questions when meeting in person with fellow believers.

Apply what you learn when faced with life’s decisions.

Examine the ground of your heart – prepare it to receive

Read a little every day.

Listen a little every week

Discuss a little every month.
